Particle Sciences, Inc. in Bethlehem, PA has an immediate opening for a Formulation Scientist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Includes the design, development, manufacture and physicochemical characterization of drug eluting medical devices

  • Experience with manufacturing and characterizing drug eluting medical devices is highly desired

  • Will be involved in the development of internal and client projects from pre-formulation, formulation development and characterization, production of pre-clinical and clinical trial materials, scale-up, and technology transfer to client companies

  • Responsibilities include the ability to interface with Analytical Services for testing of raw materials, pharmaceutical actives, intermediate prototypes and finished products

  • You must be comfortable working within a regulated environment following QbD, cGMP and SOP protocols.

  • Experience writing client reports, and developing SOPs, IQ/OQ/PQ protocols, and other regulatory documentation is desirable

  • Documenting in laboratory notebooks and in-house reporting formats without error in a highly regulated cGMP environment.

  • Evaluating/interpreting data and communicating results to management and functional teams

  • Anticipating, recognizing, and resolving or escalating simple and complex technical issues. This is accomplished through knowledge, use of technical resources including technical literature, technical experts and well formulated, logical experimentation

  • Maintaining and troubleshooting equipment as an instrument owner where appropriate

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • The successful candidate should have a minimum of a BS/MS degree in Chemistry or related field and 3-10 years or relevant experience, or PhD in Chemistry with 0-5 years of relevant experience

  • Candidate should have practical knowledge of fabricating polymeric devices, including hot melt extrusion and injection molding of thermoplastics and thermoset polymers.

  • Critical to the job is the ability to disassemble, clean and re-assemble equipment used in the extrusion and injection molding of polymers. This is a research and development position requiring a significant degree of hands-on work in the lab

  • Practical knowledge of cGMPs, GLP, and FDA/ICH guidelines and their application to drug development and release

  • Experience with a broad range of dosage forms such as device/implants, tablets, capsules and novel formulation types is preferred

  • Proficiency with common PC based applications, specifically in the use of MS Office

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents/reagents, chemicals and materials

  • Good organization, communication and analytical skills

  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical and business information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, clients, and vendors

  • Intermediate mathematical skills, including: algebraic functions, statistics (mean, median, standard deviation, variance, probability), basic geometry (area, volume calculations), and scientific calculators

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to work varied and extended hours/days, as business dictates
