Lehigh University Information Specialist in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

Summary:

The position of Information Specialist provides information support for operational and project based needs for development and alumni relations operations at the University.

Accountabilities:

  1. Provide front line support for the information utilized in development and alumni relations operations at the University
  2. Manage incoming tickets in the customer support system
  3. Respond to requests in a timely manner
  4. Collect information about users problems
  5. Effectively guide non-technical users through the issue resolution process
  6. Provide excellent communication to non-technical users through written, graphical, verbal and in person communications
  7. Refer issues to other areas as appropriate
  8. Create and maintain documentation relevant to team responsibilities
  9. Utilize, support, and promote the use of the Development and Alumni Relations' primary reporting tool, Argos
  10. Assist and advise Development and Alumni Relations' users on the best practices for utilizing Argos to achieve their goals
  11. Utilize Oracle SQL at an intermediate to advanced level to create and maintain reports
  12. Report creation; collect report requirements, translate requests into needs focusing on end goals and adhere to organization and team processes and standards
  13. Create reports which are easily understood, modified, and maintained by other team members; emphasis on end user ease of use
  14. Create accurate, complete and timely reporting information
  15. Maintain existing reports; modify to resolve issues, add feature requests, in response to changes in Banner, Argos, auxiliary systems and in response to change in organization and team processes and standards
  16. Provide information analysis to support organizational decisions
  17. Participate in the testing of Argos upgrades
  18. Provide Argos subject matter expertise to the Training and Project Management team as needed
  19. Effectively manage a mix of project and operational work
  20. Appropriately prioritize a large volume of multiple requests, projects and issues
  21. Adapt to changing priorities based on a fast moving dynamic environment
  22. Independently manage projects as determined by Development and Alumni Relations' management
  23. Collect the needs of stakeholders at various levels and positions within the organization
  24. Effectively communicate project status and issues to management
  25. Meet project deadlines
  26. Support and collaborate with a diverse University community
  27. Maintain excellent relations between Development and Alumni Relations' Operations, Development and Alumni Relations and the Lehigh Community
  28. Serve as the liaison for information between Development and Alumni Relations and other Lehigh Stems, colleges, offices and departments
  29. Maintain excellent intra-team relationships
  30. Collaborate with team members as necessary with a focus on maximizing available time and resources
  31. Serve as a backup to Systems Specialists for day to day operations
  32. Occasionally volunteer to support other teams in Development and Alumni Relations
  33. Maintain proficiency in the systems and technologies used by Development and Alumni Relations
  34. Monitor relevant publications, web sites, listservs, etc. to keep up to date on systems, technology, fundraising trends, and other professional development topics relevant to the team
  35. Attend conferences and professional groups to keep up to date on systems, technology, fundraising trends, and other professional development topics relevant to the team
  36. Attend training, including training offered internally at Lehigh and by Development and Alumni Relations, to keep up to date on systems, technology, fundraising trends, and other professional development topics relevant to the team
  37. Proactively maintain knowledge and expertise in the latest Argos features
  38. Proactively maintain knowledge in the data architecture of Banner and auxiliary system used as data sources
  39. Proactively maintain knowledge and expertise in SQL, Oracle, and relational database concepts

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field required
  2. Three to five years related work experience
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  5. Solid writing ability and organizational skills
  6. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
  7. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts, preferably Oracle
  8. Prior experience with Development and Alumni Relations’ systems such as Banner and Argos preferred
  9. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification

Special Considerations:

  • Periods of high volume/workload may be required at the end of the calendar and fiscal year; for system upgrades
  • Occasional evening, holiday or weekend hours
  • Occasional travel to attend conferences
