JOB TITLE: Quality Assurance Inspector

DEPARTMENT: Quality Department

LOCATION: Phillipsburg NJ Berry Plastics

FLSA STATUS: Hourly Non-exempt


Ensures the Quality objective and safety of all employees, quality of the product and maximum operating efficiency by the utilization of knowledge, training and Quality Department resources and communications.


  • Inspects and tests plastic raw materials of fabricated products for uniformity of color, surface defects, and dimensional accuracy, following plant specifications or blueprints and using measuring instruments and test equipment.

  • Examines surface of products for defects, such as scratches, burns and discolorations.

  • Verifies weight and dimensions of product using scales, calipers, micrometers and templates.

  • Compares color of product with color standard.

  • Records test data.

  • May investigate causes of recurring defects and recommend changes in production procedures.

  • Calibrate measuring instruments with standards that are traceable to the National Institute of Standard Technology.

  • Perform capability studies and prepares reports on manufactured products.

  • Communicates and cooperates with other employees in a positive and constructive manner to achieve the Goals of the Department and the Plant.

  • Promotes Safety by following all Plant Safety rules and reports violations and unsafe practices to appropriate Management Personnel.

  • Promotes GMP policy, product safety and daily cleaning.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must be willing and able to work overtime when needed.

  • Must know and follow all GMP procedures.

  • Must be able to work safely and follow Safety Rules and Procedures.

  • Must be able to identify and report violations and unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.

  • Must be able to wear protective clothing as hair net, uniform, steel toe shoes, gloves, short-sleeved shirt, and earplugs.

  • Must be able to effectively respond in an Emergency Situation such as Fire, and Accident and direct the activities of others.

  • Must be able to follow all Department Procedures and Directives. ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIP:

  • Reports directly to Quality Manager. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred manufacturing and plastics experience

  • High school Diploma, or GED preferred

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

  • Good computer skills.

  • Must have the ability to multi-task.

  • Must have reliable transportation.
